Load the Grease Gun Properly

To use a grease gun, you need to load it correctly. First, you need to remove the head from the barrel to load. Then pull the T handle. Therefore, securing the handle, insert the new cartridge into it.

Before putting in the new cartridge, cleaning it from the old cartridge will be very helpful. Unseal the new cartridge.

Then, Reattach the cap to the barrel. Before adjusting it too tight, make it air free. It is crucial. Therefore, pump the handle and release the air fuzz. After the air is released, the grease gun will be stably pressured.

When it is fully loaded, latch the rod at the end of the cap. Therefore it will not spring back automatically.

Choose the Location

You are not going to put grease everywhere in the machine. At first, target the rotatory part of the machine. Use the grease gun to lubricate the selective parts.

Applying Grease

First, check whether the grease gun is working smoothly or not. Afterward, connect the grease gun nipple to the targeted location. Now, determine which quantity of grease will be sufficient for the position. Build pressure through the hand crank.

When sufficient pressure is built, pull the trigger. At this point, direct the lubricant to the targeted location through the nipple. On the other hand, you can pour lubricant by creating pressure through the piston down at the end of the barrel. When the grease squeezes out from the ball joint, stop pumping.

Rather than using a hand-cranking grease gun, pneumatic grease will be easier. If you want to use a battery-functioning grease, maintain the time of pouring the grease to maintain the correct amount of lubricant.

You can use a grease gun with a zerk fitting for more efficiency. Hence check the hose between the coupler and the grease gun is free from any damage.

If you want your grease gun to function smoothly, you have to take care of your grease gun. Clean the greased nipple. Pump out the excess grease after using. Therefore wash the greased nipple and dry it completely.

Some Tips:

  • Do not mix the old grease with the new one before using it; also, use a different grease gun according to the type of lubricant.
  • Do not tighten up the head of the grease gun too much; it can cause pressure failure in the grease gun. Excess pressure can harm the grease gun as well as its functioning of it.
  • Use a pair of gloves for your safety concern when using the grease gun. Therefore you can wear a glass too.
  • Do not let the grease spill on your floor. Clean the work area after using the grease gun. If the grease spills on your floor, it can cause serious falls.
  • Check whether your grease is flammable or not. Most of the lubricants ate flammable. So, if it is, stay away from the fire while lubricating.
